|When I tried to play a DVD from a user's terminal, I got the following errors.
|Failed to open /dev/rtc: No such file or directory (it should be readable by the user.)
libdvdread: Can't stat /dev/dvd
No such file or directory
Couldn't open DVD device: /dev/dvd
I searched the forum extensively and found one solution:
|mplayer -dvd-device /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 dvd:// |
Note there is no NUMBER after dvd://
But, the above solution wasn't that convenient because I couldn't access the mplayer's menu at all for some reason.
So, I opened mplayer from KDE's Multimedia menu and went to Preference => Misc
Wow, my dvd device was set to /dev/dvd.
No wonder the system tried to find /dev/dvd!!
So, I changed it to /dev/cdroms/cdrom0
Now, it's working without any problem and I can access all the mplayer's menu.
So, it's better to check out your dvd-rom's physical address before you play mplayer.
If you still can't have problems, re-emerge the following:
|emerge libdvdread libdvdcss |
