i apologize if any of this has been covered elsewhere, I didn't see anything in the forums or on google...
i just got a mac mini and installed gentoo on it, mostly running quite well, but of course life wouldn't be fun if everything was perfect
the first problem is with alsa: it actually worked fine "out of the box" except that i can't play mono files.. i don't get any errors but tons of noise, i think one channel works ok though it is difficult to tell because the sound is overpowered by a loud noise signal. i assume the problem is that the mini's audio hardware doesn't support mono output, or the linux driver for it doesn't, does anyone know how to get around this? i get the same behavior with both xmms and aplay
secondly, i get a "Gdk-WARNING **: shmget failed: error 38 (Function not implemented)" error everytime i start a gtk app it seems (ie firefox, xmms, gmplayer, etc) which doesn't seem to be a problem except with gmplayer, which then reports "[ws] shared memory extension error" and refuses to run. /dev/shm seems to be mounted correctly
mplayer on the other hand works (without the gui) but only with -vo x11, with -vo xv i get "X11 error: BadAccess (attempt to access private resource denied)", running as root doesn't help. is this some xorg config problem?
any help/tip/lead is appreciated, thanks in advance!
