Hi,
I've got a dual 2.0 g5 powermac that I'm just itching to install gentoo on however it wont boot from any linux live cd I've tried.

No matter what kernel options I use the gentoo or ubuntu etc disks just wont boot - they simply crash and display something about openfirmware.

I've got to get a new "logic" board (mobo) soon as my soundcard is sh*gged should I just wait and hope that this fixes it?

Many thanks
Iain

Update the error is (This may not be stricktly correct as it's off a piece of paper scribbled at boot)

Invalid memory access at %SRR0: 000000000.01403780 % SRR1: 100000000000.00083030

Is this something to do with the RAM? I've 2x 512mb dimms and 2x1gb dimms in the machine.

I don't know which gentoo CD you are using but I used the 2005.1 ppc64 universal CD. It worked for me.

cheers I'll give it a go.

As an update I've had the "logic" board replaced and it still wont boot from any isos I've got.
