This Quote is from the Gentoo PPC FAQ:
Quote:
I have an early NewWorld Mac such as the Blue and White G3. It should be compatible with the LiveCD, but on boot it returns an "Unknown or corrupt filesystem" error.

As a workaround, boot into Open Firmware by holding down the Apple + Option + O + F keys on startup. When the prompt appears, type:

Code Listing 1.2: Early NewWorld Mac Open Firmware work around

boot cd:,\\yaboot

The CD should boot as expected now, thanks to John Plesmid for this workaround.

I tried this and it said:
DISK-LABEL: read of block0 failed
can't OPEN: cd:,\\yaboot

Anyone have any suggestions as to what else I could try?

Here's some info about the machine, if it will help:
It is running MacOS 8.5 right now
Tray loading CD
Open Firmware Version 3.0.f2

.k.

Check to make sure that the CD is readable on your machine, some older CD drives can't read CD-Rs and you'll get this error.

I had a similar problem but on a slot-loading 350 iMac. before it would not boot off 80% of present day cd's
i resolved the issue by updating firmware. now it is the opposite (cant read 20%) which is way better
try upgrading firmware is what i would recommend

make sure the mac can read the disk in its native OS (eg check you can see it in OS9/OSX)

Boot into open firmware

Code:
boot cd:,\\:tbxi

I've found this especially usefull on some of the older B&W Macs[/code]
