This machine is a iMac DV SE (graphite).

The problem is that DRI is inited correct but i get timeouts in the log files
Quote:
(EE) R128(0): R128CCEWaitForIdle: (DEBUG) CCE idle took i = 1025
(EE) R128(0): Idle timed out, resetting engine...

which result in a distorted screen and a nearly frozen system.

Using fbdev instead of r128 as driver works, but then without DRI.

Kernel is configured according to PPC FAQ.
I used Xautoconfig

Any ideas or working configs?

New kernel (gentoo-sources-2.6.14) doesn't help too.

Have you figured something out for this problem? I think I have exactly the same iMac and I've run into the same problem, so if you got a solution it would be much appreciated. I'll post here if I solve it myself :P

Searching on "resetting engine" gave the answer, just make sure you have the following in /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Code:

Section "Device"
  [...]
  Option "ForcePCIMode"
  [...]
EndSection

The Gentoo PPC FAQ also sugges using ForcePCIMode, but for another reason, so maybe it could be worked around in some other way. Gonna play with auto configuration utilies tomorrow and see what I can figure.
