Hello. I have installed gentoo linux on my powerbook g3 "pismo". I am having problems getting my cd/dvd player working. There is nothing wrong with the cd-rom, because when I start up from the livecd, it works. My guess is that I have forgotten to enable something in the kernel, but I cannot figure out what it is. Does anyone know what kernel options I need to enable to get the cd-rom working? This is the kernel output when I boot from the livecd:
Quote:

hdc: LG DVD-ROM DRN-8080B, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
hdc: ATAPI 24X DVD-ROM drive, 512kB Cache, DMA

I have the following options enabled in my kernel config:
Quote:

Include IDE/ATAPI CDROM support
ISO 9660 CDROM file system support
UDF file system support

What exactly is the problem you're having? Is the CD device not showing up? Or can you just not mount CD filesystems?

I have tried to mount /dev/hdc, which is what the livecd uses, but it doesnt work. I have also tried all the other /dev/hd?, but that does not work either. There is a cd in the drive. /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 doesnt exist.
I dont know how to proceed to start using my cdrom drive.

The Pismo has the media bay for swapping devices, make sure you have the media bay support enabled. It's in device drivers->Macintosh device drivers.
