Hello All.
Need your help.

root # uname -a
Linux power 2.6.5-gentoo-r1 #4 Mon Nov 1 19:03:20 EET 2004 i686 Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 2.40GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

I what to install same portage for example:
root #emerge sudo

and recive such error:

!!! 'str' object has no attribute 'insert'
!!! 'rm -Rf /usr/portage/profiles; emerge sync' may fix this. If it does
!!! not then please report this to bugs.gentoo.org and, if possible, a dev
!!! on #gentoo (irc.freenode.org)

Anybody can to explain me what does it mean.

What stage did you use, 2005.1 ppc ? Did you extract a portage snapshot? Follow the install guide? Have you sync'd recently?

Have you tried the suggestion? Looks like the profile is corrupt, if so the advice should sort it out.

It maybe mean that your portage tree is somehow broken and that you have to
resync to get a consitant version... Try the suggested steps! :-)

@drwook: He has an P4 as his uname output suggests. ;-)

Hello.
1. rm /etc/make.profile
rm -Rf /usr/portage/
2. wget ftp://mirror.pudas.net/gentoo/snapshots/portage-20051020.tar.bz2
3. cd /usr/
tar -zjvf portage-20051020.tar.bz2
4. ln -s /usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/x86/2005.1/ /etc/make.profile
5. # emerge sudo
!!! 'str' object has no attribute 'insert'
!!! 'rm -Rf /usr/portage/profiles; emerge sync' may fix this. If it does

:(
Any comments?
