hi folks

i have an openpower 720 and have successfully finished the stage1 install up to the point where i need to configure the kernel. i took the running config from the cd (2.6.12.2-pseries) and tried to make a kernel out of it (no genkernel). my only problem is, everytime i try to boot the system with this kernel i get a kernel-panic with the following error:

kernel panic, unable to mount rootfs at unknown block. there is no special device like sda3.

it looks like the kernel doesnt find a valid scsi driver for the installed scsi-controller. i dont have a raid-controller installed (just 3 basic drives on the normal ibm 570B scsi onboard controller without the raid expansion card). if anyone know a solution for this issue, i would be pleased to hear howto solve it.

You need to make sure the CONFIG_SCSI_IPR=y is enabled. Thats the SCSI card for all OpenPower systems. Hope this helps; if you have more questions, jump onto #gentoo-ppc64 and we can discuss.
