I reckon this is more FYI then anything, though if any of you Gentoo PPC64 folks have an idea why my Type 7026-6H1 running 6 x RS-64 CPUs fails to get past the last line below ... I would be much obliged. I have the latest firmware on the box.

I'm not a PPC64 dev, but the kernel stopping there usually indicates that there is a problem with the framebuffer.

Noted.

I'll try to have a Matrox G200 PCI convert to IBM GXT130P to test this theory. Wish me luck, AIX CDs are somehow missing ... f*ck.

No luck with finding the AIX 5L (which we should have 5.2) CDs. The machine refuses to re-install AIX 4.3.3 as the firmware has moved on quite a bit since... so I had 0 luck getting to re-flash the Matrox G200 PCI to become an IBM part, as per instruction found in this very board.

So, I tried my Mac ready Matrix Millenium II, but no go for OF. Oh well, was worth a try.

The 30 day eval release of SLES 9 works A1, which is good, giving me a hardware test at the very least. I may try a custom install of Gentoo using alternate disks and a chroot. Not what I had in mind but might just work.

I really hope that a bootable CD for PPC64 gets released with 2.6.14, because the discussions that I read in many places put emphasis that the RS64 CPUs need a fix that is "going to be in 2.6.14". Well, I'm hoping that those fixes are present.

This project, bringing this beast up into a "generic" Linux setup, is ongoing and low priority. But I'm looking forward to having all the LVM/EVMS setup working. And yes, outside Debian, I'd like Gentoo to run. I'm a *BSD guy and 'portage' is the closest thing to me having some "control" over what and how gets added.
