Hi all,
I've installed a Gentoo from the minimal Live CD as described in PPC64 doc and have now some trouble on making the machine boot without help.

So what have I done :

emerge yaboot-static
...
as described in doc for IBM machines I need to dd the yaboot.chrp file to my boot partition (/dev/sda1) and edit the yaboot config as described:
-------------------
device=disk:
partition=3
root=/dev/sda1
default=gentoo
timeout=50

image=/vmlinux
label=gentoo
read-only
----------------
Now when start into the graphical OF (F8) it can't find any bootable partitions.
When I use the boot CDRom i can do:
boot /pci@fef000/scsi@c/sd@4,0:3,/vmlinux root=/dev/sda1
and everything boots from Harddisk.

Next thing is the gentoo boot cd says my graphics card is a "IBM Rasterizer 256 [FIREGL1]" during boot up. Where does this message (and therefor the detection) come from? I've searche the init.d directory for the command but couldn't find the difference to my own build system where the message doesn't pop up.

Last is there any X driver available for this card? All I get so far is kernel panic.

So long...

normally you would partition your disk this way

/dev/sda1 (prep)

/dev/sda2 (swap)

/dev/sda3 (root)

then dd yaboot ( I use a working zImage ) to sda1 and setup the following OB options

setenv boot-device disk:1

setenv boot-file root=/dev/sda3

this works for my IBM RS/6k F50
