I am a newbie who have just install gentoo from stage 2. I can only use the console at this time but i want to install and run gentoo with full graphic suport like fedora. How can i make my gentoo run graphical applications ? To be more specific, which package should i install to run gnome and how to config gnome run by default? I have a nvidia graphic card (GF 6200) and i didnt config the kernel to use agpgart (neither as loadable module nor kernel incorporated) since many people say the nvidia driver handles the graphic better than agpgart (although i dont really understand what they mean). Is it possible to build the graphic card driver into the kernel to make gnome run faster? If yes, then how?

Code:
# emerge gnome

That will compile X and GNOME for you. Next you should edit /etc/rc.conf and make sure you have the following lines
DISPLAYMANAGER="gdm"
XSESSION="Gnome"
After, simply run
Code:
# rc-update add xdm default

Every time you reboot, it should start GNOME automatically.

When you are done compiling GNOME, make sure your xorg.conf works fine before adding it to boot, to avoid future problems. By the way, GNOME is not a window manager: GNOME is a desktop manager and Metacity is GNOME's default window manager.

Thanks,
So it means i dont have to use emerge xorg-x11 before installing gnome?
I remember that in fedora i did have to config xorg.conf to make nvidia driver work so do i have to do that or just emmerge nvidia driver and it will automatically config the xorg.conf file for me?
