Good news! The open driver was able to succesfully transmit and recieve for the first time yesterday! :) The driver does not yet associate, etc. but this was an important step in the process.

Please, do not check out the svn version now and complain that it doesn't work. We know that it's not finished. :) But this is the good news you've all been waiting for.

You can follow the development here at: http://bcm43xx.berlios.de
You can read the specs for the chipset here: http://bcm-specs.sipsolutions.net

That's great news! linux-wlan-ng has been giving me some trouble lately, and I'd really like to get the built-in AirportX working.

Even if this does come through, wouldn't it be a legal liability? Since the card can broadcast on US Air Force frequncies, wouldn't it be a little frowned upon by the government?

wow
i've a question
previously on this forum, long time ago there were discussion about this driver and why they never relased the specifications
why they didn't relased specifications(broadcom)
some people involed military reason(they have said that the army was using the same chips)
is it true???
are there any different features from others wireless card that can be usefull for a user?

so it was because the card can broadcast on US Air Force frequncies
so that's why apple called them Airport lol (just kidding)

are theses frequency used only for military stuff?
or is there any others aplications such as:
-listening civil planes (it may be usefull to ham radio (amateur radio) people (mabe you need the amateur radio licence for theses frequencies but i don't know at all radio regulation because i don't need to(i don't operate on such frequencies)))
-or mabe we could make it act as a secret chanel for 2 or more broadcom devices(again:need to check radio frequencies regulations)

wait a sec...
you sell hardware to people and you know, you will definitively reach some geeks, even some, that would substitute a perfect, beautyful, stable unix with something they have to configure and compile themselves...
choice 1: don't give them specs and they have to get them themselves, reengineering and stuff and may find some things they shouldn't
choice 2: give them specs to use it the way you want and disable anything else like AMD disabled the 64bit-extension in the first socket754-Semprons or Intel disables HT in celerons...

hm, stupid broadcom guys ^^

EDIT: sorry, I fogot:
*ehem*
w0000t!! for bcm43xx.berlios.de! ^^
