I use linux-wlan-ng with my 12" 1GHz iBook (2.6.12-r10) and a DWL-122 wireless dongle. When I try to:
Code:
wlanctl-ng wlan0 lnxreq_ifstate ifstate=enable"

I get an error message about "kernel access of bad area (sig 11)", a call trace, kernel panic and message about killing the interrupt handler and rebooting in 180 seconds. Unfortunately, since the interrupt handler is dead, I cannot get a screen shot and 3 minutes is way too short to write down the exact call trace. I'm trying to take a digital picture of the screen right now.

I did however, find s clue in the dmesg output.
Code:
prism2_usb: no version for "p80211netdev_rx" found: kernel tainted.

I've tried every kernel configuration I can think of that might be involved with this. If any one has been able to use linux-wlan-ng, I'd appreciate it if you could post up your kernel config in it's entirety.

Thansk in advance for any help.

that's not exacly the solution, but I'd recommand to switch to hostap-driver or orinoco. Both work together with wireless-tools (iwconfig) and support scanning mode..- you could use then the gentoo scripts in /etc/conf.d for dynamic wireless setup, they really work great. Also if your problem is only related to linux-wlan-ng it wouldn't be a matter then anymore..

Unfortunately, hostap-driver doesn't work with USB dongles. Jimmers, I had one of those and it worked more or less allright, with some frequent kernel panics (that's why I left it), but I don't have the kernel config any more, sorry. If you have an Airport Extreme, have you tried this?: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-365647.html

I thought about using MOL, but then I'd have to re-partition and re-install OSX. I'll probably just keep dealing with the kernel panics until the reverse-engineering project for AE is functional.

you don't have to re-partitionate your disk for installing OS X using MOL ;)

give a try to net-wireless/orinoco-cvs
it's supposed to work with usb devices and works with wireless-tools..

I had the same problem with my pbook with some kernels.
I solved it by not using gentoo wlan scripts ;)
Try to manually bring up your wlan (with wlanctl-ng, ifconfig and route) for me it works.

edit: i'm using wlanng-0.2.1-pre26 patched for aircrack on a Linux 2.6.13-gentoo-r3
