I am currently in the process of setting up a 350MHz B&W G3 as an audio capture box using JACK and Ardour. Unfortunately, I have hit a tiny snag. I cannot seem to get my Delta 66 (ICE1712) working under JACK. ALSA detects it just fine, loads the appropriate modules, and it appears under alsamixer. For some strange reason, JACK does not.

I'm fairly certain I have JACK correctly configured (I've used this card with JACK successfully on x86), but it isn't finding the soundcard. I've tried messing around with the buffer settings, to no avail.

I initially used alsaconf to set up the soundcard, which I am beginning to think was not a good idea.

If anyone has any thoughts on how I might get this contraption working properly, I would really like to hear them.

Thanks for the tip, unfortunatelyI get the same results:

Code:
djpenguin@frooty-beatz ~ $ jackd -d alsa -P -n3
jackd 0.99.0
Copyright 2001-2003 Paul Davis and others.
jackd comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY
This is free software, and you are welcome to redistribute it
under certain conditions; see the file COPYING for details

loading driver ..
creating alsa driver ... hw:0|-|1024|3|48000|0|0|nomon|swmeter|-|32bit
control device hw:0
configuring for 48000Hz, period = 1024 frames, buffer = 3 periods
Couldn't open hw:0 for 32bit samples trying 24bit instead
Couldn't open hw:0 for 24bit samples trying 16bit instead
Sorry. The audio interface "hw:0" doesn't support any of the hardware sample formats that JACK's alsa-driver can use.
ALSA: cannot configure playback channel
cannot load driver module alsa

I have tried messing around will all sorts of different settings for jackd in qjackctl, haven't found anything that makes it work yet. Any other thoughts on the matter?

Dunno if that thing of yours actually can do 480000. You could try adding a -r44100 too

Delta 66 can support sampling rates up to 24bit/96kHz - Product page

I have previously used this card with JACK successfully on an x86 machine, so I know this particular piece of hardware will work with JACK. I'm just trying to figure out what exactly might be different about this PPC system that is giving me negative results when I use the settings from the successful x86 setup, which is why I posted in the PPC forum instead of multimedia.

I am giving up on running Linux on this G3, because the machine really only has one purpose, and that is to capture audio. Since I can't even get a JACK server going (using settings I know work with the exact same card under x86), PPC linux is useless to me.

I will be reinstalling OS X and using the JackOSX implementation to run ardour.

Thanks to all who tried to solve this issue.
