guess what, i'm damn angry.

it really goes on my nerves that each time i upgrade my gentoo on my server fscking reverse dependecies do break and i am left repairing my server an entire fscking day. wtf can't you guys do simple reverse dependencies if you have got already all the fscking informations at hand with y<our ebuild system?

it's just so stupid. i noticed my database no more working and mail server also so more working, why? because suddenly pg_ctl for example spits out 'library not found' error. WHAT THE FSCKING BULLSHIT!!! i even re-emered the postgresql package and have the same fscking error.

sorry for that rant but this now really made my anger jump as i have lost once more an entire day to fix your fscking package system in times i need my time for something else.

*logs off*

Rants like that are just pointless, as I am sure you know it.

Maybe you should consider helping out the devs and contributing some of your time to solve these issues if you are so attached to them.

My personal opinion of Gentoo is that it works great if you follow the rules. (i.e. no setting USE or ACCEPT_KEYWORDS
on the command line for instance), and I've never had rev. dependency issues except when I mess around with ~ stuff
and revert back - but I know I'm not supposed to anyway.

Also, if you're using Gentoo on a "production" server, you know the risks you are taking.
If you don't test out your updates on a test server, nothing will ever prevent breakage
(not even moving to a commercial distro).

I completely agree with mseigneurin. I find that Gentoo package system is pretty fine, and errors in ebuilds are occasional and promptly corrected. You're able to stay on the edge remaining on the stable branch of Gentoo. Try to do the same with Red Hat or Suse. And, of course, one is not forced to upgrade anything critical before carefully considering implications and waiting for feedback from other users.

Moved from Portage & Programming to Duplicate Threads. Wrong forum, wrong tone and a duplicate of e.g. [feature request] emerge shows reverse-dependencies list
