Anyone managed to get OpenOffice, any version, working on Gentoo PPC? I seem to be having a sod of job!! :)

Am i right in thinking its due to the lack of java? Any work around?

Cheers,

Ed

Code:

# emerge -s openoffice
^NSearching...
[ Results for search key : openoffice ]
[ Applications found : 4 ]

*  app-office/openoffice
      Latest version available: 2.0.0
      Latest version installed: 2.0.0
Size of downloaded files: 210,553 kB
      Homepage:    http://go-oo.org
Description: OpenOffice.org, a full office productivity suite.
      License:     LGPL-2

It didn't take anything special to emerge -- just a lot of time. (~8hrs).

What happened when you tried?

HI all,

Any resolution on this? I'm trying to emerge openoffice 2....and looks like I'm running into a java problem?

head: `-1' option is obsolete; use `-n 1' since this will be removed in the future
Buildfile: build.xml

BUILD FAILED
Unable to load default ProjectHelper due to java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/xml/sax/SAXException

Total time: 1 second
dmake: Error code 1, while making 'ANTBUILD'

dmake: Error code 255, while making './unxlngppc.pro/misc/build/so_built_ooo_beanshell'

ERROR: Error 65280 occurred while making /var/tmp/portage/openoffice-2.0.0/work/ooo-build-2.0.0.1/build/ooo680-m3/beanshell
make: *** [stamp/build] Error 1

!!! ERROR: app-office/openoffice-2.0.0 failed.

Any ideas?

TIA,

Well, tried this, and still got the following as an error message.

I'm guessing there isn't an openoffice-bin for version 2 for the PPC?

Any other suggesions?

Which version of Java do you have installed?
Have you tried building without java?

Hey, thanks for the help. I put in USE="-java" and it bult just fine....version 2...took overnight on my little 800 Mhz iBook. But, runs just fine.

I have blackdown-jre 1.3.1-r9 and blackdown-jdk 1.3.1-r10

Wonder why it couldn't use that for java? Is there another version you'd recommend?

Anyway, thanks...got it to compile just fine

cayenne :D

Yep, that's probably why it didn't build, java-1.3 is really old. :p Use IBM's jdk/jde instead.

ibm-jdk-bin or ibm-jre-bin

These are the default jdk/jre for PPC.

Would it be best if I unmerged the blackdown first?

No... you can use both of them.

You will able to have an 1.4 java version for programs, and a 1.3java version with browser plugin. (ibm one doesn't have it).

Remermber to change the java home variable :)

I've got G4 binaries :)

Tell you what ... after I finish recompiling Enlightenment DR17, I'll drop my compiler flags back to G3 and have a go at recompiling OpenOffice for you. It takes a LONG time though ...

I'll post back with a link when it's done.

By the way - if you've already got it up and running, tell me so I'm not doing this for nothing.

Here are the G3 binaries (compile time = ~24 hrs). Also the ibm jre and sdk if you need them. Let me know how the download speed is.
