Does anyone have the Mac fonts working with their TeX installion? I want to use some of the truetype fonts (Gill Sans in particular) with pdflatex with my texlive setup on gentoo.

I've been fiddling with this for a while without success. I can convert the font suitcases easily enough. I followed a ttf installation howto, but I get stuck at writing the .fd file. Here's what I have:

Code:

oedipa:~$cat /tmp/t1GillSans.fd

\ProvidesFile{t1GillSans.fd}[GillSans font]

\DeclareFontFamily{T1}{GillSans}{}

\DeclareFontShape{T1}{GillSans}{m}{n}{
   <-> GillSans
}{}

\DeclareFontShape{T1}{GillSans}{bx}{n}{<->ssub * GillSans/m/n}{}

\DeclareFontShape{T1}{GillSans}{m}{it}{<->ssub * ptm/m/it}{}
\DeclareFontShape{T1}{GillSans}{m}{sl}{<->ssub * ptm/m/sl}{}
\DeclareFontShape{T1}{GillSans}{m}{sc}{<->ssub * ptm/m/sc}{}

\DeclareFontShape{T1}{GillSans}{bx}{it}{<->ssub * ptm/b/it}{}
\DeclareFontShape{T1}{GillSans}{bx}{sl}{<->ssub * ptm/b/sl}{}
\DeclareFontShape{T1}{GillSans}{bx}{sc}{<->ssub * ptm/b/sc}{}

\pdfmapline{+GillSans\space <GillSans.ttf\space <GillSans.enc}

when I try to process a file that specifies Gill Sans, I still get this:
Code:

LaTeX Font Warning: Font shape `T1/GillSans/m/n' undefined
(Font)              using `T1/cmr/m/n' instead on input line 10.

For the moment, the fonts and the support files are in my current directory, and kpsewhich says it finds everything.

I wonder if I can just use the support files for the non-Monotype versions of Gill Sans or the Humanist font that are available on CTAN.

Hmm... LaTeX & TeX don't seem to be very popular here. If anyone is still listening, the problem with the font description file was the file name. I changed it to T1GillSans.fd and everything worked. I'll also note that the .tfm file generated by ttf2tfm works much better than the one fontforge puts out. Fontforge's .tfm file makes the spacing all wrong.
