|I'm a long time Gentoo user (by computer standards 2-3years) and I like it, but the distribution especially documentation isn't what it use to be:
Here is link to a sad story of an experience user trying to install gentoo (first time):
Even long time Gentoo users have some problem and complain on Gentoo mailing list: latest from Budd, Tracy under subject: Is Gentoo still on the right path?
Once we pass the installation, the system never needs to be re-install again and that is beauty of it. But to get there sometimes is not easy.
When I was first installing Gentoo I wanted to make a suggestion (input to improve documentation) but there was no way to provide an input, and that is what we missing.
What Gentoo documentation is missing is user rating and input box.
Each chapter should have a scale (let say 1-10) for rating and a box for users to provide comments (how to improve the documentation). This way we would have documentation easy to follow especially for first time installers.
I've made that suggestion via email as a feedback long time ago but nobody seems to be listening or care.
In order to improve the documentation we need an input from new users who experience problems. Listen to their suggestion, evaluate it and implement it if it makes sense.
Such a system would be pretty much on auto pilot from users.
