Hi, i am trying to install gentoo again, on my desktop, and everything goes good and smooth until i have to emerge --sync in the chrooted environment... I dont know why... but everytime i do it gives me the same error:

first it pops up with 3 tries to connect to the server:
Code:
notice: (-3, 'Temporary failure in name resolution')

and then it tries to connect to the rsync server i selected with mirrorselect, then after it fails on all the attempts it pops up with...

Code:
Rsync has not successfully finished.  It is recommended that you keep trying or try "emerge-webrsync" option if you are unable to connect to rsync due to a firewall or other restrictions.  This should be a temporary problem unless other complications exist with your network's (or filesystem) configuration.

I dont knwo whats going on... i litterally just installed gentoo on my server about 5 hours ago and it worked flawlessly... the servers are up , i have no idea why this is coming up with the error i did everything the same as my other computer...

I guess the only real difference is this one is using SATA harddrive and the other used an IDE harddrive... but i dont see why that would matter @.@[/code]

So you don't have DNS.

You probably didn't:
1) Build drivers for your network card
or
2) Didn't set up /etc/conf.d/net correctly
3) Or both

Optional: Copy over DNS Information

If you configured your network to fetch the appropriate stage file later on from the Internet, you need to copy over the DNS information stored in /etc/resolv.conf to /mnt/gentoo/etc/resolv.conf. This file contains the nameservers your system will use to resolve names to IP addresses.

Code Listing 2: Copy over DNS Information

# cp -L /etc/resolv.conf /mnt/gentoo/etc/resolv.conf
