Just updated apache after having run stable for 1 year.
Being configured via httpd.conf now I see.
However restarting does not work properly.
cmd-output is:

(98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80
no listening sockets available, shutting down
Unable to open logs

error_log shows:

suEXEC mechanism enabled (wrapper: /usr/sbin/suexec2)
[notice] Digest: generating secret for digest authentication ...

This definitely has not been the case with the old config version (sometime early this year) so
I'm wondering why everything's screwed up after some config changes.

You already have apache running (probably previous version not stopped before upgrade).

What does screw up? Did you stop apache before upgrading? If not, then kill it, run /etc/init.d/apache2 zap and then start apache normally. If that's not what you mean, then describe your problem better.

yea do this. changes to the init script result in it not being able to shutdown 'the old way'
