Hi,

I have FFMpeg 20050806 (latest CVS) compiled by hand (no e-build) and installed under /usr/local/lib

Since I want to use some dvd-rip utilities I must use FFMpeg 0.4.9_p20051120 that is in portage.
Is this newer than the one I use and it's version 0.4.9 and only ~2MB compared to ~5+MB of the one I use ? i'm confused...

So the ffmpeg that is in portage will install under /usr/lib I suppose.

So my question is that since I can have two different versions of the library installed on my system in different locations how can I tell the dvd-rip program which version to choose from ??

Or there is no such way and the dvd-rip programs check first at /usr/lib then /usr/local/lib then ./ etc .. ?

Any suggestions ?

PS:
The ffmpeg CVS that I compiled needed some fixed and so did the Mplayer CVS
How do i send to the gentoo developers those fixes ? (and maybe to the ffmpeg developers too :) )

You could try messing around with $PKG_CONFIG_PATH, but I don't know if it does what you want to do.

Without looking into it too closely, I'd say the portage package is a newer snapshot, the date string sort of suggests that. The reason the portage build is smaller could be that some features are turned off, or the stripping performed by portage reduces the size.
