Hi

Upgraded to the latest mol and keep getting a kernel panic in osx.

Previously r3 was working great, but since I have upgraded to gcc4.02 and molr5 I'm getting problems :?

If I go back to molr3 then I still get kernel panics in osx.

TIA

When you say kernel panics do you mean OS X kernel panics or linux kernel panics?
If linux, it is quite possible that you still have the r5 modules loaded, instead of r3.
I would say emerge -C mol and rm -rf /usr/lib/mol. Then check lsmod.
If OS X panics, you will probably need to remove the kernel extensions by hand that mol installed.
I don't remember offhand what they are. Or you could try booting with the install CD and repairing.

ps:
I've also changed to gcc-4.0.2, and needed to use fix_libtool_files.sh 'previous gcc-version'.

scoobydu:

There were no real changes between _pre3 and _pre5, but make sure that your kernel and mol were compiled with the same compiler and try booting OSX natively. In addition, david's suggestions are also sound. If you still have problems, let me know.

Thanks guys, sounds like some good ideas to try.

Yes Osx kernel panics, not linux. Message looks like graphics related, although its hard to make out. Yes I did initially have problems with inserting the modules, but that I sorted, but still seems to be issues in that area.

A -C sounds good (I only reinstalled) and a kernel rebuild (although it is built with 4.02).

Also I forgot to try OSX natively  will come back if I still have problems.

Thanks
scooby

Mhh, so.

Removed mol, rebuilt kernel and mol r6 with gcc4.02, removed mol modules and reinstalled.

Tried with -fbcon and then -pci both still give me an oops in the osx kernel inside mol.

Always related to the graphics subsystem, hence trying -fbcon and -pci

OSX works fine booting natively.

Initially thought it may be related to nitro kernel that I was using, but get the same problem rebuilding everything with gentoo-sources.

Any ideas how to debug this

When you unmerged MOL, did you also erase /var/lib/mol before reinstalling?

Are you using fbsplash perhaps? MOL has issues with that I think. There's also the possibility that gcc-4.0.2 is the problem, we've found a few places where it produces broken code.

fbsplash, no, don't use it.

gcc 4.0.2 thats likely based on the problems occuring when I upgraded gcc and profiles...

davidgurvich has it working though with gcc 4.02 8O

Quote:

CFLAGS="-O2 -pipe -mcpu=7450 -mtune=7450 -mabi=altivec -mpowerpc-gfxopt -ftree-vectorize"

I'll rebuild with no CFLAGS ...

edit: Ok, so built with no CFLAGS and mol booted OSX just fine ;) so thanks for the gcc tip. Whats wierd is that I removed mol and deleted /var/lib/mol reinstated the CFLAGS and rebuilt mol ... expecting the oops again, but it didn't happen 8O :? anyway its working :D
