Heya,

I just installed Gentoo and I want to use the 2005.1 packages CD. I have it mounted but Portage wont let me use the compiled packages on the CD.

Code:

theMotherland All # emerge -p x11

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild  N    ] media-libs/libpng-1.2.8
[ebuild  N    ] x11-base/opengl-update-2.2.1
[ebuild  N    ] media-libs/freetype-2.1.9-r1
[ebuild  N    ] x11-misc/ttmkfdir-3.0.9-r3
[ebuild  N    ] media-libs/fontconfig-2.2.3
[ebuild  N    ] x11-base/xorg-x11-6.8.2-r4
[ebuild  N    ] app-arch/rpm2targz-9.0-r3
[ebuild  N    ] sys-apps
theMotherland All # echo $PKGDIR
/mnt/cdrom/All/
theMotherland All # emerge -Kp x11

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies
!!! There are no packages available to satisfy: "x11"
!!! Either add a suitable binary package or compile from an ebuild.
theMotherland All #

So, how do I use the packages on the CD?

The problem is that the package you want to install doesn't exist. If you want to install a X-Server (e.g. xorg) try "emerge -K xorg-x11".

okay, that worked. now I have a new problem. xorg-x11 is blocked by what appears to be itself. i remember having this problem before and i completely forgot how i fixed it.

Code:

theMotherland ~ # echo $PKGDIR
/mnt/cdrom
theMotherland ~ # emerge -pK x11

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[blocks B     ] x11-base/xorg-x11 (is blocking x11-base/xorg-x11-6.8.2-r2)
[binary  N    ] media-libs/libpng-1.2.8
[binary  N    ] x11-base/opengl-update-2.2.1
[binary  N    ] media-libs/freetype-2.1.9-r1
[binary  N    ] x11-misc/ttmkfdir-3.0.9-r3
[binary  N    ] media-libs/fontconfig-2.2.3
[binary  N    ] x11-base/xorg-x11-6.8.2-r2
[binary  N    ] sys-apps/utempter-0.5.5.5-r1
[binary  N    ] x11-terms/xterm-200-r3
theMotherland ~ #
