Hi,

Can somebody tell me what the password is that comes with the live cd?

I am trying to be far too clever and install Gentoo remotely on a pre-existing Centos server.

I worked out that the easiest way to do this would be copy the minimal install CD to the boot partition as per one of the howtos on the Gentoo wiki.

But of course I wanted to login over SSH as soon as the Livecd came up and I don't have anyone on site to do anything for me, so I decided to remove pwgen from the default runlevel and add sshd to it then repack the squashfs and copy it to the boot partition thinking that there was no password on the Live CD.

Machine came up great but I cannot login to SSH it is not accepting a blank password.

Before anyone says anything about security I am doing this over an openvpn connection on another server so nobody is going to be logging in to that server willy nilly.

Thanks hopefully in advance.

It's auto-scrambeled.

If you want one for SSH or anything like that, use:

Code:
passwd root

To set it to a know value...

Yes I know it's autoscrambled, by pwgen that is why I removed pwgen from the default runlevel and repacked the squashfs.

so therefore password should not be scrambled so what is it?

Not set? Have you tried passwd?

I don't have anyone onsite to do that for me. I am obviously flogging a dead horse here, I just hoped that somebody i.e. maybe a developer would be able to tell me what the default password on the live cd is and as it hasn't been scrambled by pwgen then I would be able to login.

Please please please please please.
