JoseJX: It was something like "14e4:4312". You're right. I'll be eagerly awaiting the next patchset! Thanks for your help.

I've still had zero luck here with my Broadcom 4306. It's still doing the same thing for me it was doing in early January with no changes. I'm using the firware from that wlpsta.o file that's floating around. Basically, if I try to associate by hand (bring interface up with ifconfig, then associate with iwconfig), nothing ever happens, it just times out and my AP never sees any traffic. If I try to use the /etc/init.d/net.xxx scripts (which work with ndiswrapper), the card dies entirely and the interface won't go back up until I reboot. I'm at a loss here, I've been messing around with this for months and I've never once been able to associate with anything...this particular AP is WEP but I've tried with open ones too with no change. I don't really have any hope that this is going to work for me anytime in the near future. Here's some logs from 2.6.17-rc4. I'm seriously thinking about taking this card out of here and trying to find a mini-PCI wireless card that works with Linux without having to use ndiswrapper.

May 25 21:35:04 samus bcm43xx: Card IRQ register not responding. Giving up.

This is the problem, please try the patch on netdev that reduces the length of time where the IRQs are locked.
http://www.spinics.net/lists/netdev/msg04935.html

If this doesn't help, please come on the IRC channel listed on the bcm-specs.sipsolutions.net website and hopefully one of us can help you debug it.

I am still struggling with the "device is busy"-error, maybe some log-output is helpful for those in the know... it seems it is going in circles because of the STA-error:

I tried with both AppleAirport-firmware and the wl_apsta.o
Will try with kernel 2.6.17rc5 once wireless-dev is synched.

I am really thinking about getting a real wireless router as opposed to my custom bridge-setup, but even my Palm can connect to it, so what the heck...

Please try the patch you can find here:
http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.linux.drivers.bcm54xx.devel/1370

Quick feedback is appreciated, we need testing in order to hit 2.6.18.

I upgraded my kernel to 2.6.17 and followed the bcm43xx driver installation mentioned at the beginning of this post. I can successfully connect to my AP if I set it to no encryption or WEP, however when I attempt to start wpa_supplicant I get the following errors:

st3: Tried that patch. eth0 is working with it, but it can't detect any networks. Under Mac OS, I can detect 3-4 at a time (mine plus my neighbors').

@perplext: You should specify the wext driver:
Code:
wpa_supplicant -Dwext -ieth2 -c/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf

First post for me and I want to thank JoseJx for all his work and posts, it took about two hours for me to get this to work and the hardest part was figuring out to use a static ip and adding the default gw, fwiw I have a powerbook g4 1.67 w/gentoo 2.6.17rc4 connecting to an apple airport wap. tried using dhcp with no success just shut down eth1 and had to reboot. Thanks again Jose.[/topic]

Thanks to everyone, I got my Airport Extreme working on my Powerbook first shot. Except I've noticed I'm not going beyond 78K/sec on downloads, whereas in OS X I often hit 300K, even 800K.. any ideas?

Well I was playing around with it for a bit, and found that at a bitrate of 11Mb/s I can get much higher speeds than 54Mb/s. Limitations of the driver possibly? I'll settle with the 11Mb/s for now..

A few limitations. We're working on fixing the TX Power control which should help. There's an oscillator that we think it uses to track signals, this is currently not trained correctly on newer cards (4318). We also don't implement CTS/RTS with SoftMAC, which limits the max speed by quite a bit. A few other more minor issues all add up to 11M working much more reliably than anything higher, but in areas without any interference you can probably go a little higher.

I applyed the stort preamble patch for softmac. This did not solve the issue. Still a 0x13, but now some funny thing happens before.

Authentication responce received from xx:xx:etc. but did not request authentication.

I guess someone needs to take a look at the state machine.

If I try it again I get:
Authentication responce received from xx:xx:etc. but no queue item exists.

I tryed the dscape stack which gave my the same scanning facilities. But no associating here.

I guess the Airport Extreme driver needs the TX a bit hard ;)

hi everyone,
by following the instructions, now I can connect my August' 05 iBook (Airport One BCM4318) to my AP with wpa_supplicant,
but I'have got still some issues:
First, the connection in very unstable and it seems to improve by approaching the AP, in addition during the connection the kernel sends countinously messages like this:
Code:

printk: 14 messages suppressed.
CCMP: replay detected: STA=00:0e:2e:55:41:11 previous PN 000000d10463 received PN 000000d10463

what means this?

Second issue, if the connection go down definitively the only way to resume it is by reloading the bcm43xx; udev automatcally calls net.eth0 start and all works fine however, for some unknown reason, if I run such script manually, without reloading the module, the net does'nt works at all and wpa_supplicant go to time out.

my kernel is 2.6.17-rc4 and I extracted the firmware from AppleAirport2 (wlpasta does'nt works for me), wich I'have found in /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAirPort2.kext/Contents/MacOS/AppleAirPort2

sorry for my english and thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Paolo

Don't use CCMP in your wpa_supplicant's config ? It seems to me that CCMP is for WPA2.

this is wpa_supplicant.conf:
perhaps there is something wrong.

Code:

ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
ctrl_interface_group=0

network={
        ssid="bubba"
        proto=WPA
        key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
        auth_alg=OPEN
        pairwise=CCMP
        psk=c2cfcaedf40d8b88767051387d00b77ce5439ff0efae339cfe85ef4aeabe4c53

I am not sure. For proto=WPA and key_mgmt=WPA-PSK, try
pairwise=TKIP
group=TKIP

PS: Your ssid and psk are public now.

PostPosted: Sun Jun 11, 2006 8:49 am    Post subject: Can't find bcm43xx driver in kernel Reply with quote

Hello,
I have an eMachines m6805 that I'm running Gentoo Linux on using AMD64. I found this thread because I was looking for a way to get my wireless network card to work under Gentoo. I have emerged the vanilla-sources-2.6.17-rc6, but I can't seem to find the bcm43xx driver listed in the Wireless LAN section, and I'm stumped...

Any idea why it's not showing up as an option for me? Is it because I'm running AMD64...?

All I see in my wireless Lan section is:
Code:

But no bcm43xx or Airport Extreme listed.... ideas??

thx!

You need to have SoftMAC and experimental enabled to see it. You're most likely missing one of those options.

Yep, that was is. I didn't have SoftMac enabled.

Now I have my wireless card up and working (yay!), but I can only seem to get it to work w/out WEP enabled...

when I try to use WEP, I get this error:
Code:
 * Starting eth1
 *   Configuring wireless network for eth1
 *   eth1 does not support setting keys
 *   or the parameter "mac_key_pos" or "key_pos" is incorrect
 *   Couldn't associate with any access points on eth1
 *   Failed to configure wireless for eth1                                [ !! ]

I've tried entering the "key_pos" as both a string and hex values... but neither way seems to work... ideas?

thx!

You probably don't have the WEP ciphers enabled. Make sure you enabled the correct crypto options.

Hello, thanks for making an OS driver for the wireless.

I've followed your updated instructions from the first page to the best of my ability but I think something is missing.

iwconfig shows
Code:

lo             no wireless extenions
eth0         no wireless extenions

I have eth0 working with a cable, so there is a port that isn't showing up.

lsmod shows the drivers installed along with ieee80211,ieee80211softmac and ieee80211_crypt

lspci shows
Code:

lsmod
Module                  Size  Used by
bcm43xx               397440  0
ieee80211softmac       18432  1 bcm43xx
ieee80211              35304  2 bcm43xx,ieee80211softmac
ieee80211_crypt         2944  1 ieee80211

I'm on an HP Pavilion dv8220 (which is the same as a dv8000)

Thanks for your help
