Hello,

i have two questions (at least i think so).

1.) Whilst booted from the gentoo ppc universal LiveCD, is there a way to determine, using standard tools, exactly which kernel module needs to be loaded to support the ethernet port on the Blue and White G3 Macintosh (Yosemite) ??

2.) would it be possible to copy the kernel module from ubuntu's into the iso of the PPC gentoo so that i can get gentoo installed on my B&W G3? (i to use gentoo for work) I noticed that they both use the Elf32 kernel. When i boot from the ubuntu LiveCD i have a working eth0. When i boot w/ the gentoo LiveCD i get no eth0.

I'm trying to learn to be more useful at work, and all of the servers run gentoo ... so i am trying to get gentoo ppc going on my Yoesmite (B&W G3) so i can study up on my own time, and experiment w/ out destroying anything at work

or is it possible i could just find out which driver that is included w/ gentoo is the right one?

Thanks

p.s. i have been able to get through the install (ignoring lack of properly supplied/identified eth0 kernel module ) all the way up to the portage install... wow - took some gymnastics to get to that point. :?:

Edit: Comment removed. Didn't realize Ubuntu had a PPC release now.

No, it's not a good idea to copy the module from ubuntu, the kernel versions must match for that to work. We most likely provide the driver anyway. I think the Blue and Whites use the BMAC network driver, try modprobe bmac. If this doesn't work, try modprobe sungem, most modern macs use the sungem driver. You could also try checking the output of lspci to see what chipset is actually used.

Good luck.
