I am having an issue booting into my Gentoo install on my G4 ibook. I can boot into OSX fine but booting into Linux comes up with the following.
Code:
Welcome to yaboot version 1.3.13
Enter "help" to get some basic usage information
boot: Linux
Please wait, loading kernel...
      Elf32 kernel loaded...
chrpboot starting: loaded at 0x00800000
gunzipping (0x00010000 <- 0x00806c88:0x00a548ba)...

Making it look like it is booting into the OpenFirmware part not my root. My hd is partitioned as such.
Code:
/dev/hda1 - Apple Partition map 31.5K
/dev/hda2 - Apple Bootstrap - NewWorld bootblock - 800K
/dev/hda3 - Apple HFS - OSX - 47.3G
/dev/hda4 - Apple_Unix_SVR2 swap - Linux Swap - 1.5G
/dev/hda5 - Apple_Unix_SVR2 root - Linux native - 7.0G

My yaboot.conf reads
Code:
device=hd:
ofboot=hd:2
delay=20
defaulttos=macosx
boot=/dev/hda2
timeout=30
install=/usr/lib/yaboot/yaboot
magicboot=/usr/lib/yaboot/ofboot

image=/boot/kernel-2.6.14-gentoo-r2
label=Linux
root=/dev/hda5
partition=5
read-only

macosx=hd:3
enablecdboot
enableofboot

Does anyone have any ideas on what would be causing this.

Thanks,
Nick

Okay I figured out my mistake. I copied the wrong kernel image over.
I did
(Pegasos) # cp arch/ppc/boot/images/zImage.chrp /boot/kernel-2.6.12
when I should have done
(Apple/IBM) # cp vmlinux /boot/kernel-2.6.12

I copied the kernel image over redid yabootconfig for safe keepings and poof yaboot worked.

Anyone have any idea how you are suppose to know whether or not you have a Pegasos or Altivec?
