Before I go any further, I have had a rummage round the forums and still can't seem to find the answer to this.

I have a Dell XPS Gen2 Laptop, which has a Centrino CPU in it.

cat /proc/cpuinfo shows:

processor : 0
vendor_id : GenuineIntel
cpu_family : 6
model : 13
model name : Intel(R) Pentium(R) M Processor 2.26GHz
stepping : 8
cpu MHz : 2261.251
cache size : 2048 KB
fdiv_bug : no
hlt_bug : no
f00f_bug : no
coma_bug : no
fpu : yes
fpu_exception : yes
cpuid level : 2
wp : yes
flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae msc cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss tm pbe nx est tm2
bogomips : 4456.44

GCC Version is 3.4.4

CFLAGS are:

-march=pentium-m -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -mmmx -msse -msse2 -mfpmath=sse -fforce-addr -momit-leaf-frame-pointer -frename-registers -ftracer -pipe

CHOST:

i686-pc-linux-gnu

When I try to do an emerge, I get the error:

cc1: error: bad value (pentium-m) for -march= switch

I have tried changing it to pentium4m and also pentium3, but get the same error.

Can anybody tell me if this is one of the CFLAGS causing the problem or something else ?

I thought GCC 3.4.4 understood the pentium-m setting.

It does. Double check your /etc/make.conf, or post emerge --info output (between code tags, please). If it doesn't work with pentium3 there's something wrong in conf file. BTW, why are you trying to use those exotic CFLAGS?
