I need a little help setting up grub.

I have a 160GB IDE drive and 2 250GB sata drives.

Windows is installed on a single ntfs partition on sda.

Linux is installed on 3 partitions on sdb.

Grub is installed on sdb mbr.

Currently, I can switch which drive boots from the bios. Windows if booting from sda, linux if booting from grub on sdb.

I would like to configure grub to boot into windows, and eliminate the bios step. (The grub naming scheme confuses me)

Currently I have
rootnoverify (hd0,0)
makeactive
chainloader +

and it just hangs.

Thanks for any help

Edit /boot/grub/device.map and set your drives according to what they should be. Something like this:
Code:
(hd0) /dev/hda
(hd1) /dev/sda
(hd2) /dev/sdb
(cd1) /dev/hdc

This is assuming hd0 is IDE, hd1 and hd2 are SATA/SCSI, and cd1 is IDE CDROM. You get the idea - edit accordingly.

Moved from Installing Gentoo to Duplicate Threads.
See here: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-764507.html#764507

End of the first post:
  • Boot Windows from your second harddrive
If you've got problems doing so, try this tip from cyrillic: change your windows boot entry to this:
    Code:
    title Win2k
    map (hd0) (hd1)
    map (hd1) (hd0)
    chainloader (hd1,0)+1
