Tell me if it would be possible to make a install script from the Gentoo handbook purple areas to run a similar install on my other pc's / laptops and then have the scrips also run a kernel compile for each specific pc's maybe using x86 kernel and not platform specific kernel as they are all intel or amd machines.

Pcmcia + 802.11 B G A this will manually be added or after compile / restart I can do another module add + compile ???

Or if there is a place I can download one ?

I have learned so much doing the install 5 times over with most of my error occuring in lilo.conf as I would never have believed it is build for normal humans as the instructions seemed to diifcult at first but frustration and Tiger on my Apple Pbook drove me to Gentoo/Linux on my PC's.

Another one bites the dust. yeah ! LOL

Thanks all for your help.

Have you read CONRAD Install Method thread ? It's an advanced script that may help you a lot.

If they are exact clones you can pretty much just copy the freshly installed OS from one machine to another (there are some slight complications with permissions I';m not entirely sure about) If they are different setups, I'd say you're better off just doing it manually. It'd probably be shorter than a shell script. If you are interested you can look into VidaLinux which is based on gentoo but has a graphical installer.

Also, you can take a look at building a stage 4 which you can copy it to a dvd/cds and then install it whenever you want. Of course you'll have to modify some things if the machines are different, but it's not such a big deal.

Random Question: Would that theory / script work on other flavors of Linux / BSD as well ?

For sure. It's just about archiving the files, preventing atributes, that sure works for any *nix, *bsd you choose.
