Last week, I tried to upgrade KDE to 3.5, but it failed halfway through the process. So, I reversed the process. But now KDE 3.4 has some minor problems. I've tried to re-emerge KDE, and do a revdep-rebuild. In both cases the process fails with a shwack-load of XPath errors like this:
Code:
compilation error: file /usr/kde/3.5/share/apps/ksgmltools2/docbook/xsl/html/chunker.xsl line 263 element when
xsl:when : could not compile test expression '$doctype-public = '' and $doctype-system != '''
XPath error : Undefined variable
compilation error: file /usr/kde/3.5/share/apps/ksgmltools2/docbook/xsl/html/chunker.xsl line 274 element copy-of
xsl:copy-of : could not compile select expression '$content'
XPath error : Undefined variable
compilation error: file /usr/kde/3.5/share/apps/ksgmltools2/docbook/xsl/html/chunker.xsl line 287 element copy-of
xsl:copy-of : could not compile select expression '$content'
XPath error : Undefined variable
$doctype-public != '' and $doctype-system != ''
                ^
compilation error: file /usr/kde/3.5/share/apps/ksgmltools2/docbook/xsl/html/chunker.xsl line 294 element when
xsl:when : could not compile test expression '$doctype-public != '' and $doctype-system != '''
XPath error : Undefined variable
compilation error: file /usr/kde/3.5/share/apps/ksgmltools2/docbook/xsl/html/chunker.xsl line 305 element copy-of
xsl:copy-of : could not compile select expression '$content'
XPath error : Undefined variable
$doctype-public != '' and $doctype-system = ''

The original error scrolled out of the history, so I'll have to redirect the output to a file to find it. I have to run out right now, but was hoping someone might know the cause of this? Thanks for any tips.

Found the problem.

Another forum message related a similar issue and a fix (https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-412750.html?sid=9a351102f57d18a2d8a4d9759c588173).

There, the poster suggested doing an emerge of "libxsl". However there is no libxsl - it's "libxslt". Once I emerged this, things started working properly again. Funny thing is that it was an update, but emerge world was trying to do kwebdev before this - I'm not even sure if emerge world reported libxslt....
