Hi

I have a Powerbook 5,6 running Gentoo PPC (2.6.15-rc5 kernel) and I was wondering how to enable the soundcard of the Powerbook?
Modules soundcore, snd & snd_mixer_oss get loaded but soundcard doesn't seem to work..
Also I have a belgian azerty keyboard and in console I editted the keymap (be-latin1) to map altgr to my apple button (to get characters as [, |, @, #, ...) but this doesn't seem to work any longer in X, how can you fix it over there?

PS: Is it possible to configure kernel so you can read the Powerbook's temperature sensors?

Thanks

You also need to load snd_powermac. To do this, and add the proper modules to /etc/modules.d/alsa run:
Code:
emerge alsa-utils
alsaconf

Welcome ;)

Have you done everything as per the FAQ on Sound? [Sound setup with ALSA]

hi,
I think you should load the
Code:
snd-powermac
module.
This is my lsmod (only the relevant part):
Code:
snd_seq                61864  0
snd_seq_device          8396  1 snd_seq
snd_pcm_oss            58496  0
snd_mixer_oss          19424  1 snd_pcm_oss
snd_powermac           47040  0
snd_pcm                92460  2 snd_pcm_oss,snd_powermac
snd_timer              24076  2 snd_seq,snd_pcm
snd                    60316  7 snd_seq,snd_seq_device,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_powermac,snd_pcm,snd_timer
soundcore               9164  1 snd
snd_page_alloc          9256  1 snd_pcm

I had some issues first as well because I didn't load snd-powermac.
And this should be useful in case you got problems:
Code:
laptop ~ # cat /usr/src/linux/.config | grep SND
CONFIG_SND=m
CONFIG_SND_TIMER=m
CONFIG_SND_PCM=m
CONFIG_SND_SEQUENCER=m

Of course don't forget to unmute the sound card with:
Code:
alsamixer

Hope this helps

For the keyboard controls I have a post here on that. From what I can see the xkb is relatively simple to modify, as long as you make no errors. I would test any changes with xmodmap before committing them to your xkb/symbols/.
The technique only works for X, for console you would need to make modifications of which I am uncertain as yet.
You can get the temperature from /sys/devices/temperature on my machine.
Code:
#!/bin/sh
CASE=`cat /sys/devices/temperature/case_temperature`
CPU=`cat /sys/devices/temperature/cpu_temperature`
echo "case temperature:"
echo $CASE
echo "cpu temperature:"
echo $CPU

installed gentoo - X and kde emergeing now, most difficult part until now was setting up yaboot correctly, got some bits and pieces everywhere, 'till it finally worked.
Biggest annoyance, the keymap. I do have an Belgian keyboard layout (it's an azerty).
Now on my x86 desktop, I use be-latin1. For now I use that as well on my powerbook, but it's not 100%. I don't know how to type in a tilde (~) in the console. I tried to loadkeys mac-be, but if I can give any advice, DO NOT USE THAT KEYMAP FOR A BELGIAN KEYBOARD LAYOUT.

bye,
roel

ps: machinery: 15,4" powerbook with 1.67GHz cpu and 512MB of memory.
