Hi,

maybe someone in here can help me out.
I have a really nice IBM RS/6000 43P Model 150 sitting right under my desk. I've been playing around a bit with AIX 5.1, which runs absolutely flawless, but is kinda limited as a Desktop OS.

I decided to try to put Gentoo on this machine, downloaded the install-ppc-minimal-2005.1.iso file and burned it to CD.

After I powered up the RS6K, I changed the boot order in the SMS to boot directly from the CDRom, but nothing happens..the Gentoo handbook lists RS6000 machines as supported, but there aren't any details concerning the boot process on such a machine..so I'm kinda stuck, and haven't even got past the very first part...kinda depressing :-)

Hopefully somebody in here can give me a few clues as to what I'm possibly doing wrong.

Dominik

Hi,

only some rs6000 machines work with gentoo out of the box, with other's it takes a little more work.

your system has the same cpu as my f50, drop me a line and I can email you a working zImage to burn
onto cd, also checkout my other posts on rs6k.

eddie.

Hi there,
on my 44p 170 which should be similar in terms of booting I went into the graphical start menu (F2) and then choosed install from. Then selected the cdrom and of it goes.

Have fun.
