greetings, i changed my compiler to gcc 3.4.4 and do an entire emerge as guide said, also changed my kernel sources to gentoo sources -r5 i was using r4, and changed the symlnk to the new one and compiled and installed my new kernel , i get the mesage that 53 config files in /etc needs updating, and one in /usr/lib/x11/xkb needs updating in portage after emerging the whole system.

I read the info about it in emerge --help config and it says that it is a practice that portage do not merge this config files until you tell portge to do it or do it manually, is it safe to do etc-update
and use -3 to merge them automaticly? wich is the procedure to deal with this?

also my intel-agp module dont load with the new kernel dont know if its related to the config files being updated, , i re-emerged x11-drm with my new kernel but this is only for the radeon driver, what can i do to solve this?

If you run etc-update with the -3 option, it should go through each one and ask if you want to replace it... after it's done, you can run a 'rm /etc/pathtoconfigfile/._*' to delete all the temporary config files you don't want. Also, you can add the locations of config files you'd like to protect in the future in /etc/make.conf.
As for the drivers, this wiki article may be of use...

See the FAQ Forum entry on updating config files.
