Ok time has passed drivers are now integrated in the recent kernels. That makes all very easy. Thx devs

Code:
Kernel
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Device Drivers  --->
 Multimedia devices  --->
   <*> Video For Linux
    [*]   Enable Video For Linux API 1 (DEPRECATED)
   ....
    Video Capture Adapters  --->
       V4L USB devices  --->
         <M> Empia EM2800/2820/2840 USB video capture support

Sound
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Install snd-usb-audio as second/third sndcard. (Check Alsa Guide on Gentoo or Gentoo-wiki if you don't know how)

Emerge sox

Then run this to reroute sound output to your soundcard (assume 2nd Card is TV-Tuner)

sox -t ossdsp -r 48000 -b -c 2 /dev/dsp1 -t ossdsp /dev/dsp

I suggest TV-Time for watching

I tried to use the module that is already built in the gentoo kernel, because I don't get compiled the one from linuxtv.org with kernel 2.6.16.

I figured out that it doesn't work for me because my Pinnacle tv device seems actually to have a wrong vendor and product ID. Mine is the following: 13d3:3211. This is not the one supported by the kernel. I tried to edit the kernel sources, but this didn't change anything. I've got a Pinnacle PCTV 310e, and I have been trying to make it work for the last week, but I don't seem to achieve anything. The Windows driver doesn't work either under Windows 2000, so I don't know what to do now...

I also have a Pinnacle PCTV 310e (usb2). According to a guru of the video4linux-list@redhat.com, this device is not em28xx based, and is not supported yet :? (message dated 2006-04-25). But we might be a little off-topic cause the PCTV USB2 is not the same as PCTV 310e i'm afraid ?!

PS mine works under winXP, havent tried it under win2k.

I'm the owner of a pinnacle PCTV USB2 since I was sick to boot into windows just for watching tv i tried to make the adapter run with linux. Unfortunately I haven't managed yet to make sound work. Would be nice if someone could figure out how it works. This is what a did to make it work with mplayer:

Code:
Kernel
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Device Drivers  --->
 Multimedia devices  --->
   <*> Video For Linux

reboot

V4L-Core
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

cvs -d :pserver:anonymous@cvs.linuxtv.org:/cvs/video4linux login
cvs -d :pserver:anonymous@cvs.linuxtv.org:/cvs/video4linux co v4l-kernel
cd v4l-kernel
make
make install
modprobe em28xx

Test
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

gmplayer -tv driver=v4l2:device=/dev/v4l/video1:width=360:height=288:outfmt=yuy2 tv://S24 -vo gl

Hope some people can use this :D

Does it work now - the sound? According to the wiki there should be no problem, because dvb-t delivers mpeg2 stream including sound ... wonder why it does not work, did you get it work now?

kind regards

The PCTV USB works, but there is audio in only one program and the quality of the channels is poor.. any suggestion?

Code:

amd64 linux # lsmod |grep em
em28xx                 44456  0
compat_ioctl32          1280  1 em28xx
v4l1_compat            12356  1 em28xx
v4l2_common            13952  2 tuner,em28xx
ir_common              26820  1 em28xx
videodev                8960  1 em28xx
tveeprom               13648  1 em28xx
i2c_core               19920  9 tda9887,tuner,saa7115,em28xx,tveeprom,eeprom,lm90,i2c_viapro,nvidia

Maybe wrong Tuner?In W.Xp the imager are clear.. the signal is pretty good...

The quality is execellent and it works flawlessly - for me.
Do you use the mercurial repository? Latest version? I've got no problems at all, i dont see any em2880-dvb module loaded, so i guess you use older version.

kind regards
