Hello,

maybe somebody out there can help me...

Today I made an "emerge --sync" after a long time not having synced (maybe 6 months, or longer). The sync process took quite a long time. Especially the ">>> Updating Portage cache: xx%" took very long (maybe 30minutes on an Athlon 2200+ system). During this phase the following error occured:
"!!! Cannot resolve a virtual package name to an ebuild. !!! This is a bug, please report it. (virtual/libstdc++-3.3)"
Since I am not a skilled gentoo - user I really don't know what to do now...! Is this bug already fixed? Do I need a new version of portage? Should I try to emerge --sync once more?
I don't know how to reprt a bug. Is it necessary to report it? Maybe it was already reproted by other users...?

Each hint is welcome...

Thanx

Lothar

Remove (backup?) your portage tree and get a new snapshot from some mirror...

Is it possible/allowed to make "emerge protage" even if this error occured?

How can I remove it? Which directory must be deleted?

Code:

mv /usr/portage /usr/portage.old
wget http://ftp.belnet.be/packages/gentoo/snapshots/portage-latest.tar.bz2
tar -xvjf portage-latest.tar.bz2 -C /usr
emerge -pv portage
emerge portage
rm -rf /usr/portage.old

Something like this should do the trick if emerge portage doesn't.

Hello,

thanx a lot for Your hints. A simple "emerge portage" and "emerge --sync" did the job. I hope nobody is angry on me because I synced twice on one day...

Bye

As long as you have a reason for doing so, this really isn't a problem!

This rule (not syncing more often than once a day) just tries to keep people from syncing every hour just for the heck of it.
