I have a problem in that in order to upgrade open motif I need to remove open motif, or at least that is how I see it at the moment.

See the emerge output below.

Would someone be kind enough to enlighten me what I need to do to address this 'opportunity'?

Code:

# emerge --nocolor --deep  --verbose --pretend world

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating world dependencies ...done!
[blocks B     ] =x11-libs/openmotif-2.2.3-r3 (is blocking x11-libs/motif-config-0.9)
[ebuild  N    ] x11-libs/motif-config-0.9  0 kB
[ebuild     U ] x11-libs/openmotif-2.2.3-r8 [2.2.3-r3] 0 kB

Total size of downloads: 0 kB

Hi!

Unmerge openmotif, then emerge it again:
Code:

emerge unmerge openmotif
emerge openmotif

You can upgrade with a --nodeps (because motif-config is a dependency of the new openmotif), and then emerge motif-config.

Greetings
Sebastian

Ok, did the unmerge and re-merge, was concerned about that.

Kind of would not expect this sort of circular dependancy to arise or, to at least be 'solvable' at update time by searching back up through the dependancy tree, noting that the blocker is actually going to be updated and that we can ignore that block (or something along those lines)
