i recently did a stage3 install on a new p4 laptop ive been playing with after having a 64bit destop for over a year.

anyway for some reason gcc 3.3 and 3.4 were installed so i switched the gcc profile over and tried to do the rest of the gcc upgrade stuff but python seems totaly buggered, i get this error when i try a number of programs inclouding emerge.

Code:
/usr/bin/python: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

anyway if anybody knows how to fix with any preinstalled scripts or if i could copy over the libstdc++.so.5 file from my 64bit desktop as a quick fix

Have a look at Upgrading your system to gcc 3.4(.4), especially this post and amne's reply on the next page, or the GCC upgrading guide.

Moved from Installing Gentoo to Duplicate Threads.
