And you get a tenth of the functionality. Heck, I could boot DOS instead of Linux and I'm sure it'd be blazing, but...well, it's DOS. Not to knock on Fluxbox either as I am also a fan of Fluxbox. But it's not a replacement for KDE by any stretch. It's just a Window Manager. KDE is an entire desktop environment and application suite (among other things).

well i dont want to flame these who use kde, like many people i was starting from kde too but comparing its performance to small window managers it is very bloated and slower, it eats too much RAM and doesnt look very nice at the same time, it provides a lot of services that i dont need and will never use them some management centers some tools for everything like konqueror which i personaly hate (im using opera/firefox). if u must use KDE use XFCE :)

about kde apps... there is a lot of apps that use GTK 1/2 instead of QT that works very well (sometimes better sometimes worse)

little screenie on the end: http://toya.net.pl/~vermaden/bsdforums-screen00.jpg about fluxbox to invite u all :)

@vermaden: He was asking for advice on how to get better performance, not recommendations for other WM/DE's. He chooses to use KDE, just like you choose to use whatever you use. If you made a thread asking how to do something in whatever WM you're using, would you like it if someone started bitching at you telling you to use KDE because it has more functionality and features? I doubt so.

The only KDE desktop program that eats a lot of RAM is kdesktop. Excluding that, I get similar memory usage in both Fluxbox and KDE. Granted, I use Konqueror and Konsole and Kmail, but GTK apps like Gaim and Firefox are pretty heavy on memory usage too (moreso than the Qt ones, in my experience).

I'm sorry, but I thought this was a post about how to improve KDE's performance, not a "flame KDE cause its sucks" thread.

I just switched from Fluxbox to KDE. I found my self wanting the features that it provided me.

First of all, it's Xfce. Second of all, KDE and Xfce are not similar at all and have completely different goals.

GTK+ being better than Qt is just your opinion.

Please, people, no more wars. No one has to answer everything one writes.

Split from here due to being totally irrelevant to the thread at hand: KDE performance, any tips?
