I'm having a little trouble installing on a mac. I am not trying to dual boot mac osx. I am having trouble with fstab and yaboot.conf. If someone of you using gentoo on a mac could post those 2 files it would help me understands how to create my own. Thanks!

Just case it matters

It would probably be more helpful for you to explain your problem, but an example fstab is included in the install with the only real difference being that you do not need the /boot line. An example yaboot.conf is included in the handbook.

ok now I have a problem. After getting everything set and reboot I end up with no internet and 2 errors during startup

first error repeats 2 times as follows:
modprobe: Fatal: could not load /lib/modules/2.6.14-gentoo-r7/modules.dep

next error is on eth1:
eth1 does not exist

I used genkernel and I should not recieved an error at end of kernel compile regarding modules not being created.

Unfortunately, genkernel is sort of broken right now due to the ppc/ppc64 headers merge in the kernel, it will get fixed for the 2006.0 release. If you would still like to use genkernel, I would use the same 2.6.12 kernel as on the LiveCD.

Sorry.

I mean, use a 2.6.12 kernel, the last Gentoo patchset for 2.6.12 is 2.6.12-r10. So:
Code:
# emerge =gentoo-sources-2.6.12-r10

Symlink this kenrel to /usr/src/linux and it should work fine.
