Recently installed Gentoo and I now want to tidy up my machine. Currently there are quite a few OS9 driver partitions (which propably will not be needed again) I want to remove. I believe this shouldn't be a problem, but just wanted to double check as the consequences of getting it wrong.... Also, will re-installing them at later date (if needed) cause any problems?

I had installed gentoo on an old Beige G3 awhile back, and found out the hard way that many of those partitions were required. Keep in mind that the G3 was an "old world" mac, so if yours is "new world", this might not be the case.

I wouldn't touch any of the "extra" partitions Apple's partitioning utilities create. It's best to let sleeping dogs lie. Any space you reclaim would be miniscule, anyway.

Thanks for the advice, but I'm not trying reclaim unused space. As I still can't easily dual boot Gentoo and OS X on this machine I decided to bite the bullet and remove the unwanted OS 9 partitions. However, I found out that mac-fdisk isn't able to delete these driver partitions anyway.

The OS 9 partitions can be removed using a combination of parted and mac-fdisk. Using parted to do this is mentioned in the installation guide (I looked a little harder), but the info is a little sparse and the parted manual page isn't that great either.
