I have just installed Gentoo linux 2005.1, it is all working and now im trying to install KDE, but it is trying to download it from the internet, is there anyway to stop it from downloading and to make it use the version on the Package CD?

In the command line, i am typing 'emerge --usepkg kde' and all i get is this

Resolving ftp:gtlib.cc.gatecg.edu....Failed: temporary failure in name resolution.
!!! Couldn't download kdebase-3.4.1.tar.bz2. Aborting.

your PKGDIR variable needs to point to your cdrom drive
eg.
PKGDIR=/mnt/cdrom/
in make.conf (or just export it)

the other thing is that the latest stable version according to portage might be different to the one that's on the cd. In which case you'll have to do something like
Code:

emerge -pkv =kde-base-x.x.x

where x.x.x = the version that's on the cd

HTH
