Hi, what envoirement would you recommend. I think it's hard to choose, there are so many and they look very much like each other. So what are the benefits and cons of the diferent desktops (Gnome, KDE, Enlightment etc.)?

Judging by your post, I'm going to assume you're new to Linux. Most likely you are coming over from windows in which case I would reccomend KDE. It is full-featured(although bloated), user-friendly, very configurable, and probably the most windows-like of the DEs/WMs. Gnome is also full-featured, but I never liked it, nor do any of my friends that have used Linux, the interface just doesn't seem to fit. If you want something a little lighter go with XFCE, it is a good compromise between the bloat of KDE/Gnome and a light-weight WM like *box. E17 is gorgeous, but pre-alpha. Fluxbox, Openbox, etc... are great if you're a command-line junkie.

Moved from Desktop Environments to Duplicate Threads, please see this topic. Also The "Best of" threads is a good topic to have a look at before posting these types of questions.
