Greetings, everyone.

I'm hoping to install Gentoo Linux on my iBook G4 12" (Dual USB 2.0), 1.0 GHz.

I've followed all of the instructions in the Gentoo Linux How-To Manual for PPC users. Everything has worked beautifully up until the point where yaboot comes into play.

In the beginning of the installation process, I followed the instructions for creating the Apple_Bootstrap partition. My partitions are as follows:

hda1: Partition Map
hda2: Apple_Bootstrap
hda3: Free Space
hda4: HFS (Mac OS X)
hda5: swap
hda6: root
hda7: Free Space

I made these partitions using the mac-fdisk command. The "b" command under this program assigned 800 K to the bootstrap partition. My yaboot.conf has the following values:

boot=/dev/hda2
device=hd:

delay=10
defaultos=macosx
timeout=40
install=/usr/lib/yaboot/yaboot
magicboot=/usr/lib/yaboot/ofboot

image=/boot/kernel-2.6.14
label=Linux
root=/dev/hda6
partition=6
read-only

macosx=/dev/hda4
enablecdboot
enableofboot

When I try to run mkofboot -v I get the following error :

Not enough space left on device.

This is in response to mkofboot 's attempt to apply HFS formatting to my Apple_Bootstrap (/dev/hda2 ) partition.

Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening?

Thanks in advance for your help!

~Anna

What is the output of mac-fdisk -l /dev/hda?
Have you tried deleting and recreating the bootstrap partition? You may need to reorder that partition after recreating it so it is the second partition again.
