Hi, i have problems with radeonfb (and even more with atyfb) at the boot time...
It doesnt recognize the args im giving him such as:
(/etc/yaboot.conf)
append="video=radeonfb:vmode14,cmode16"
or
append="video=radeonfb:1152x768-16@54"
or
append="video=radeonfb:1152x768-16@55"
or
append="video=radeonfb:1152x768-16@60"
or
append="quiet"
or
(openfirmware)
append="video=ofvideo"
or
append="video=radeonfb:1152x768-16@55,panel_yres:768"
and with many different combinations of lcd, crt, dfp... because im really stuck lol
that's so annoying to boot in 1024x768 when a 1152x768 tibook screen...:'(
...
thus i have to set it to 1024x768-16@60 to get the biggest screen size i can at bootup and also because if i set 1152x768 resolution, it switch to the screen to 1280x864 (the next vmode:( and then i cant see the bottom lines in the linux console.
im sick of typing fbset 1152-768@55 or stty rows 48 cols 144 all the time!!!

/usr/src/linux/drivers/video/
/usr/src/linux/drivers/video/aty
im still trying to figure out wich radeonfb.* driver is called with "append" arguments in the /etc/yaboot.conf...
but i dont have much time because of my exams lol
Maybe it is linked to my problems but it seems like in one of drivers file (i cant remember wich one, sry) the vmodes hardcoded in doesnt include mine:(
so i need advices here, can i modify the source and simply add my vmode and re-compile the kernel or should i wait for a patch?
My temptation is for modifying the code but it will be annoying when i emerge the sources and maybe im not good enough lol, so i have doubts... :?:

any ideas? (thx in advance:)
(PS: I added the right mode in the /etc/fb.modes and write the xorg.conf allright, thus i have no problem with Xorg at all)

some info that might help:
kernel ppc-2.6.14r5 (i think i compiled it pretty well:)

PostPosted: Sun Feb 26, 2006 7:50 pm    Post subject: yoooooooooooooooo so much thx to kernel's developpers:) Reply with quote

i read some mails from the ppc-kernel developpers and i noticed they fixed modedb.c (thus i recompiled gentoo-sources 2.6.15-r1)

and furthermore i was writing wrongly the append options in yaboot.conf:$

it is (and what u can read elsewhere is wrong) for a tibook2:

...
append="quiet video=radeonfb:1152x768M@60"
...

i think u can use 'atyfb' instead of 'radeonfb' but im aint sure
i think 'quiet' is interesting for such an old and slow laptop;)
i am a little disappointed that such information about yaboot and 1152x768 is nowhere correctly written :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x so i think it would be a very very interesting stuff to see in the ppc install guide so if somebody read this...;)

i hope it will help coz i found it very hard (for me;)) to find these informations:D
