The install-ppc-universal-2005.0 CD will not boot on my old world 9500. I have tried with several kernel arguments in BootX but the only thing I see is a black screen with a small Tux in the upper left corner. I am using the G3G4 kernel and the G3G4.igz ramdisk from the CD.

Kernel arguments currently are: doscsi ramdisk_size=34000 rw init=/linuxrc looptype=squashfs loop=/livecd.squashfs udev nodevfs cdroot root=/dev/ram0

PowerMac 9500/200, 160MB Ram
SCSI CD-ROM Drive
4 GB SCSI-HD (Mac OS 8.6)
9 GB SCSI-HD (empty)
Voodoo3 3000 Video Card

Any idea?

Thanks.

Download this new kernel for BootX from moderator JoseJX at http://dev.gentoo.org/~josejx/OW-Kernel.bz2 .

I was having the same problems two weeks ago. I have a 8600/300. This kernel got me into the Gentoo PPC Universal LiveCD 2005.1. I compiled my first new kernel today. Try it, I think it'll work for you.

Also, read our comments in " Gentoo PPC on PowerMac 7600".
