I am trying to do an emerge -pv --update --deep --newuse system and I get the following:
Code:
[blocks B     ] =x11-libs/openmotif-2.2.3-r3 (is blocking x11-libs/motif-config-0.9)
among other not so alarming stuff. :)

I suspect that openmotif got sucked in as part of someting else -- likely emacs, xemacs, or openoffice. Can I just --unmerge it so that the update to x11-libs/motif-config go occur? I would really like to know what pulled openmotif in before I try a stunt like this, as this is on an important machine.

Is there an emege option to tell me what package(s) required another package?

And what are the functional differences between the 2 motif implementations? I know the licensing is probably different, but I mean that would affect the operation of other software.

Or is there a whole other way to deal with this conflict?

Thanks for any help! :D

Code:
--tree
shows the dependency tree.
