I've purchased a new AMD X2 4400. Its got a GA-K8NMF-9 motherboard by Gigabyte. I'm having trouble getting any sound via ALSA. I installed the drivers into the kernel, restarted and various messages appear stating the device had been found:

Code:
$ lspci -v | grep -r audio
00:04.0 Multimedia audio controller: nVidia Corporation CK804 AC'97 Audio Controller (rev a2)

Code:
$ dmesg
...
Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.10rc1 (Mon Sep 12 08:13:09 2005 UTC).
PCI: Setting latency timer of device 0000:00:04.0 to 64
intel8x0_measure_ac97_clock: measured 58833 usecs
intel8x0: clocking to 46936
ALSA device list:
  #0: NVidia CK804 with ALC850 at 0xf3104000, irq 12
...

I ran alsamixer to unmute all channels and increase the volume. Alsamixer displays the card as NVidia CK884 and the chip as Realtek ALC850 rev 0. Running mplayer-bin using -ao alsa doesn't display any errors either:

Code:
$ mplayer-bin -ao alsa somefile.avi
...
alsa-init: 1 soundcard found, using: default
alsa: 44100 Hz/2 channels/4 bpf/15052 bytes buffer/Signed 16 bit Little Endian
AO: [alsa] 44100Hz 2ch s16le (2 bps)
...

I can't find any error messages but cannot get any sound. I've tried different headphones and speakers as well. Any ideas anyone??

Yes all channels are unmuted and at least 80% in volume. Any other ideas?
