Umm... I'm not sure if it could be much easier. Go to www.gentoo.org. Then click "Get Gentoo!" located at the top of the page. Then, under "Gentoo 2005.1 Universal install CD", click ppc (32 bit). Actually, it does get easier. Here you go http://bouncer.gentoo.org/?product=gentoo-2005.1-packagecd&os=ppc. Don't worry. I've asked many many questions and 99% of the time, I get a reply from some nice patient people. Welcome to gentoo ppc.

Yes, it's a LiveCD. You boot into Gentoo and install from there. Actually, you can install Gentoo from another live CD, like Knoppix. It's just easier to follow the installation guide if you use the official CD.

If you have any problems installing, feel free to ask questions here or on #gentoo at irc.freenode.net.

Wait, you don't want to install Linux on your hard drive at all? Then you probably don't need Gentoo at all. Knoppix works fine for that. The Gentoo installation CD really is a LiveCD, but it's not very useful for much other than installing Gentoo to your hard drive.

how well i was under the impression from multible source say gentoo has a live cd for ppc.
i downloaded knoppix from here
http://debian.tu-bs.de /knoppix/powerPC/
and tried it but it didn't boot so i kinda gave up on it and gentoo just seems like a nice OS so i thought a live cd would be a good thing to have.

so does a gentoo live cd for ppc even exist and if so where can i get the iso because that is my orignal question

No there is no official Gentoo LiveCD at this time. we really only provide InstallCDs.

http://ask.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=128200&threshold=1&commentsort=0&mode=thread&cid=10710257

and i tried to boot a cd made from the iso that is found one the first link and it didnt boot but im sure i can figure it out

Well, first off, there is some confusion because the InstallCD used to be called a LiveCD. It was renamed to avoid this issue. Also, and I think this is what the Slashdot article is referencing, one of our devs a few years ago made some experimental live CDs. There are no official PPC LiveCDs at the moment, and certainly no Gentoo PPC LiveCDs with support for modern hardware. Sorry.
