is there a way to do that?
i want to use only firefox after installing gnome

i tried USE="-mozilla" emerge gnome , but there was no use of it.

even after installing gnome with mozilla, after I unemerge it, it still stays in the system list and everytime i upgrade my system it reinstalls it again.

I added epiphany into /etc/portage/profile/package.provided.

I have added "-mozilla" to my /etc/make.conf to prevent installation of mozilla.

You could try putting "-mozilla" in /etc/portage/package.use for gnome, but I think you will have to put it there for all (gnome) packages that have 'mozilla' in their use flags

First of all, when asking such a question, always mention which version of Gnome you're trying to install without mozilla. Secondly, use the search. There's a good chance that your question has already been answered.

Nevertheless I'll help you out this time, hoping I don't encourage any why-search-I-can-just-ask kinda laziness :P
The thing is that Gnome itself doesn't depend directly on mozilla, but Gnome's Help system, Yelp, does. If you've got Firefox installed, the easiest solution would be to
Code:

echo "gnome-base/yelp  firefox" >> /etc/portage/package.use
emerge yelp

If you're using neither of both, you're kinda stumped. There are ways to get Yelp out of the dependencies, but this would leave you with no help system in Gnome and includes some dirty ebuild hacking, so that's propably not the way you want to go.

HTH. Now remember: use The Search, dude ;)

pi~

P.S.: Mozilla is not a dependency of firefox, since (mozilla-)firefox is a fork of mozilla, thus it contains all necessary parts of its code (though seriously modified). No Mozilla dep required here. You should propably read up about it here
P.P.S.: Seriously, the "-mozilla" use flag just isn't enough here. Neither is putting epiphany to package.provided, this doesn't fulfill yelp's mozilla dependency.

and about the search .... i didn't my search belive me!!! i haven't found anything on this forum or google. if there was a solution here i'm really sorry that i just tried to "be lazy". anyway, just the fact that i'm using this distribution speaks for my "lazyness" :)

thanx again, thou! :)
